SWAPPING MACHINES
Vaðhorn needed two BAADER 421 heading machines overhauled without the ability to take them out of the production flow. The solution was swapping the first machine with an overhauled machine and the BAADER 421 from Vaðhorn was then fully overhauled at the workshop at Petur Larsen and interchanged with their second BAADER 421.
“Finding a solution without interrupting the production flow was crucial for us, and we’re pleased that Petur Larsen was able to offer us a replacement machine so our machines could be overhauled without impacting the daily workflow.”
Says Petur Hendrik R. Djurhuus, Technical Engineer at Vaðhorn.
Vaðhorn
Vaðhorn conducts regular internal revisions of all their machines, changing and repairing parts that need assistance. This allows them to maintain the machines themselves. But time is of the essence, and therefore the priority is on the parts that have a direct effect on the machine yield output while examining remaining parts when times allows it. Their two BAADER 421 heading machines were in dire need of assistance, as a large share of fundamental internal parts were so worn that something had to be done.
Extreme wear and tear on structural parts is a costly affair, as single parts need to be changed more frequently and inventory needs to be replenished more often. The worst-case scenario is a stop in production, due to lack of spare parts or failure on fundamental part on a machine. Getting a machine overhauled is time-consuming, and means that the machine needs to be taken out of production. However, Vaðhorn found themselves in a situation where they did not have time to stop production. Therefore, an alternative solution had to be found.
Together Vaðhorn and Petur Larsen managed to find a solution. To avoid stopping production, Vaðhorn got a fully renovated BAADER 421 machine from Petur Larsen to replace the first heading machine. The BAADER 421 from Vaðhorn was then fully overhauled at the workshop at Petur Larsen and interchanged with their second BAADER 421, so Vaðhorn now had two fully renovated BAADER 421.
Over two weekends both BAADER 421 heading machines were restored to their prime, without disturbing the production at Vaðhorn. Going with this type of solution meant that a minimum amount of interruption was needed from Vaðhorn, allowing them to focus on what they do best – production. “Finding a solution without interrupting the production flow was crucial for us, and we’re pleased that Petur Larsen was able to offer us a replacement machine so our machines could be overhauled without impacting the daily workflow.” Says Petur Hendrik R. Djurhuus, Technical Engineer at Vaðhorn.
